Robert F. Harmon

Robert F. Harmon has been employed by General Motors for 37 years. In 1969, Robert was hired at the General Motors (GM), Lordstown, Ohio facility. In 1970, he entered the Skilled Trades, Employee in Training Program (EIT). In 1977, he became the first African American Journeyman Die Maker to complete the apprenticeship at the Lordstown GM facility. Robert transferred to the General Motors Die Engineering unit in Troy, Michigan in 1989. Since that time, he has worked as a Die Engineer in the Troy and Auburn Hills GM facilities.

Robert was educated in the Youngstown, Ohio public schools graduating from The Rayen High School in 1969. Robert has a natural talent in mathematics and technology. Pursuing those interests, Robert attended ….. to complete the requirements for Skilled Trade certification and the Journeyman license. He earned a Bachelor Degree in Industrial Management from Youngstown State University in 1981 and an Associates Degree in Computer Aided Design (CAD) at Oakland County Community College in 1990.

Robert has been a devoted husband to Alison for 31 years. He is most proud of the couple’s two sons, Robert, Jr., age 24 a third year law student at the University of Michigan and Aaron, age 20, a junior at Bowling Green State University. Additionally, Robert and his sons share a love of attending and watching professional athletic games and going to SciFi movies. Robert has also coached AAU elementary and middle school basketball and little league soccer.

Robert is an active member of the community. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. serving as treasurer for the Pontiac Alumni Chapter. He is Chairman of the Board of Trustees and a Sunday School Teacher at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. He has also served as a board member of the 1714 Federal Credit Union, UAW Local 1714 and the Youngstown Area Urban League. Additionally, Robert has served as Partner in the Quest Enterprise TShirt and Novelty venture.


Robert is a God fearing man, devoted to his family and committed to increasing educational opportunities in mathematics and technology for children and youth.
